The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stopped issuing work visas for Nepali citizens. On Monday, the UAE had also suspended visit visas for Nepalis.
It is reported that the decision was made after investigations began into incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting during the recent Gen-Z movement in Nepal, along with the mass escape of prisoners from jails. In recent years, Nepalis have been among the highest in numbers traveling to the UAE on visit visas.
Companies based in Dubai have stated that they are unable to process new visa applications, and even visas that had already been typed are now being cancelled. A local security company reported that work visas submitted for its security guards were rejected.
Similarly, a warehouse company’s PRO said that visa applications for 25 Nepali workers were submitted, but all were rejected. A cleaning company also reported that visas for 12 workers were denied. According to UAE Immigration, the issuance of new visas from abroad (including Nepal) has been suspended.
Nepali workers will also no longer be able to go to Korea under the E-7 visa category. The Department of Foreign Employment announced on Tuesday that the “Procedure for Sending Skilled Workers to the Republic of Korea, 2080” will not be implemented.
The department stated that this decision follows instructions from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security not to implement the procedure. Currently, Nepali workers go to Korea through the Employment Permit System (EPS).
